The most popular pickup truck in America is now available as an EV pickup truck, and it comes in the form of the 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting. Despite being powered by electricity, this model performs almost the same as its gas-fueled sibling and has a powertrain that's equally powerful.
Trim Levels
The upcoming 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting will come in four trim levels: Pro, XLT Extended Range, Lariat Extended Range, and Platinum Extended Range. The Pro model is the base model and is the most affordable version, while the Platinum Extended Range is the highest-end and most expensive option. Regarding exterior styling, the upcoming F-150 Lighting features an exterior design like the gas-fueled model with the main differences being on the headlamps, grille, and body lines.
Engine
As the sibling of the gas-fueled F-150, the 2023 Ford F-150 preserves the power that characterizes the trucks in this lineup, too. All 2023 models use two electric motors, an all-wheel drive system, and either a Standard-Range battery or an Extended-Range battery. The Standard-Range battery combined with the two electric motors has a total output of 452 horsepower, while the Extended-Range battery along with the motors makes 580 horsepower. Both options have a maximum torque of 775 pound-feet.
Performance
If we could describe the 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting in one word, it would impressive. This electric pickup truck performs just as well as the gas-powered model. Thanks to its powerful engine, the truck can hit 60 mph in just four seconds and cover a quarter mile at 107 mph in an impressive 12.7 seconds. Additionally, it boasts quick acceleration, refined road manners, and more comfortable handling thanks to its independent suspension and lower center of gravity. In short, driving this truck feels exactly, if not more exciting, than the gas-fueled version.
Interior
Featuring broad and comfortable seats, high-quality materials, and a cabin designed for practicality, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting's interior is extremely similar to the gas-fueled F-150. The cabin is spacious and airy and comes with a newly added front-trunk cargo bay. Other additions on this electric-fueled truck include an extra-large 15.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Ford's Mega Power Frunk, a spacious, waterproof, lockable storage area with power outlets located where the gas-powered engine is usually installed. Regarding cargo space, the truck has plenty of space everywhere so you can store your items with no issue.
Safety Features
The upcoming 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting comes with a wide selection of safety features and driver assistance technology. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian detection, and a rearview camera. Optional features include a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. Some standard safety features include an impact-resistant shell, airbags, and seatbelts. Additionally, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lighting is protected by Ford's basic warranty package and an eight-year, 100,000-mile policy for all the truck's components. All of these features encompass Ford's effort to make their trucks the safest vehicles on the market.
