The city of Jacksonville, AR is located in the central region of the state and just a few miles northeast of Little Rock, making it a great base to explore the region, go on weekend getaways, and take your family on fun adventures in your 2023 Ford Bronco. Here are three of our favorite spots for a memorable weekend away from the city.

1. Lake Chicot State Park

With cozy rustic cabins, pecan groves, and a beautiful natural lake that offers endless opportunities for fishing and boating, Lake Chicot State Park is one of the most beautiful places you can visit while traveling around Arkansas. Covering an area of a little over 200 acres, this state park was established in the late 1950s and is managed by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.

As its name indicates, the park’s main attraction is Lake Chicot, which was formed about 300 years ago and is the largest natural lake in the state of Arkansas. Lake Chicot State Park is located less than 150 miles southeast of the Jacksonville city center and can be reached in a little over two hours by car via routes I-530 and US-65. Some of the amenities you can find here include numerous campsites, a swimming pool, and picnic pavilions.

2. Memphis

If you are searching for a vibrant urban destination full of famous landmarks, great restaurants, historical monuments, and cultural centers, the city of Memphis is the place to be. As the second most populous city in Tennessee, Memphis is one of the most historic and culturally significant urban areas in the southern United States, as well as a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors from all around the world.

Driving from Jacksonville to downtown Memphis takes a little under two hours via route I-40. Some of the places you should check out while exploring this city include the National Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studio, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Graceland, the Blues Hall of Fame, the Memphis Zoo, Beale Street, and the Memphis Pyramid.

3. Ouachita National Forest

Covering an area of nearly 1,800 acres, Ouachita National Forest is another fantastic destination if you want to spend a weekend surrounded by nature, go camping with your favorite group of friends, or check out some of the local wildlife species that inhabit the region. Located about 50 miles west of Jacksonville, this national forest can be reached in a little under one hour by car via route AR-10.
