Located a little over 15 miles northeast of downtown Little Rock, the city of Jacksonville, AR, offers plenty of local attractions and nearby landmarks that attract visitors from all over the country. Whether you are looking for places to relax in nature or cultural centers to learn more about the history of the area, these are some spots you should check out while in town. 1. Jacksonville Museum of Military History
Featuring a vast array of artifacts, wartime replicas, and
military history exhibits, the Jacksonville Museum of Military History is one
of the most important local attractions in the city. Established in 2005, this
museum is located on a site that was once home to the administration building
of the Arkansas Ordnance Plant Guard House, which produced fuses and detonators
throughout World War II. Nowadays, the place hosts permanent and temporary
exhibits on U.S. military history with a regional focus.
Located in the heart of downtown Jacksonville, this museum can be easily
reached on foot from other major attractions in the city center. Open Monday to
Friday between 9 am and 5 pm and on Saturdays between 10 am and 5 pm, this
place charges a $3 admission fee for adults, $2 for senior citizens and
military families, and $1 for students. Guided tours for groups and individual
visitors can be booked in advance by phone or via email.
2. William J. Clinton Library and Museum
The presidential library of Bill Clinton is one of the most
visited sites in Little Rock and an excellent destination for anyone who is
interested in the Clinton presidency. Managed by the National Archives and
Records Administration, this place is located along the banks of the Arkansas
River in downtown Little Rock. Getting here takes a little under 20 minutes by
car from Jacksonville, driving along routes US-167 and US-67.
Open Monday through Saturday between 9 am and 5 pm, and on Sundays between 1 pm
and 5 pm, the William J. Clinton Library and Museum complex features not only
archival collections and research facilities but also replicas of the Oval
Office and the Cabinet Room as they looked like during the Clinton presidency.
In the permanent exhibition, you will find original documents, videos, and
other material about the 42nd president of the United States.
3. Greers Ferry Lake
Covering a surface area of over 40,000 acres, Greers Ferry Lake is an artificial reservoir created as a result of the construction of the nearby Greers Ferry Dam across the Little Red River. This body of water has become a popular recreational destination among visitors from all over the region and a great spot for outdoor sports and water activities, including boating, scuba diving, swimming, and fishing. Getting here from downtown Jacksonville takes an hour by car along route AR-5.
