1. Pleasure Park
Pleasure Park is the perfect destination on a hot summer
day. The nearly six acres of land includes a pavilion with picnic tables where
you can barbeque with your friends and family. The park also has a pool, a
playground, and a basketball court. Or you can take the kids to the Martin
Street Youth Center, which has programs for ages 8 to 15. Come on out to 201 W
Martin St.
2. Splash Zone
This large water lover’s paradise is fun for all ages.
Splash Zone has three pools, several water slides, and a concession stand. You
can rent a locker for your valuables for a minimal fee as well. Parents
especially enjoy this venue for hosting birthday parties for the kiddos. Just
check their website for party packages and pricing. The facility is located at
Pleasure Park at 201 W Martin St.
3. Jay’s Sandbar
Calling all adults! Jay’s is a great evening getaway that
offers great food, cold beer, live bands, open mic nights, karaoke, and pool
tables. They also host a pool tournament on Monday evenings at 7 for just a $5
entry fee. Enjoy a bite from the kitchen, which serves delicious burgers,
pizza, chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, fries, and more. Please drink
responsibly and in moderation, and do not drink and drive. Jay’s Sandbar is
located at 7607 John Harden Dr.
4. Jacksonville Museum of Military History
This museum is packed with history. It features exhibits and wartime artifacts beginning with Civil War times. Though the museum itself is small, you’ll be amazed at how much there is to see. In fact, you can easily spend a couple of hours just reading the plaques throughout the building. And be sure to have a chat with the staff, who are very knowledgeable. Admission is inexpensive, and they offer a military discount. They are located at 100 Veterans Circle.
