Are you looking for a great place to go for a drive near Jacksonville, AR? Then
you’re in luck because there are several great places you can explore! While
there are plenty of activities available in Jacksonville, you might want to
take an adventure and head out of town to try something different. Here are
five great places worth visiting when looking for a road trip.
1. The Pig Trail
The Pig Trail, also known as Highway 23, is one of the most
scenic drives in Arkansas. The road winds from Elm Park in central Arkansas
through the Ozarks and continues all the way to the Missouri state line, offering
spectacular views of some of Arkansas’ most beautiful destinations along the
way. Whether you’re flying solo or on a trip with friends and family, this
route allows you to take in some amazing sights.
2. Boston Mountains Scenic Loop
The Boston Mountains, part of the Ozark Mountain Range in
Arkansas, are the highest section of the Ozarks. The Boston Mountains Scenic
Loop takes you from the small town of Alma to Fayetteville along the roads
Highway 71 and Interstate 49. Both routes have sections that vary in elevation
and scenery; Highway 71 has more twists and turns, but I-49 is much more
congested and has a higher speed limit.
3. Talimena Scenic Drive
The Talimena Scenic Drive begins in southeastern Oklahoma on
Highway 1, but most of it is in Arkansas on Highway 88. The 54-mile journey
winds through Ouachita National Forest and runs all the way to Mena. This drive
is so legendary that it even has a dedicated website where you can buy
merchandise – perfect souvenirs for a beautiful memory!
4. Mount Magazine Scenic Byway
Take in the fresh air as you drive the 20-mile stretch of
Arkansas Highway 309 known as the Mount Magazine Scenic Byway. This scenic road
winds through the gorgeous country, passing right by Mount Magazine, the
highest elevation point in Arkansas. Don’t just drive past this attraction! At
the top, you’ll discover Mount Magazine State Park, complete with incredible
amenities for a day of fun and relaxation!
5. Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway
If you enjoy driving through rugged forests, then this drive is for you! The Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway, a 35-mile stretch of Arkansas Highway 21, begins at Clarksville and runs to Boxley. Whether you’re headed to the Buffalo National River or White River (or just driving aimlessly!), this is a beautiful route to take when you’re looking for a fun road trip idea.
