With its reinforced steel construction and capable turbocharged engine, the Ford Ranger is eager to tackle tough terrain and heavy lifting jobs. Not only is the mid-sized pickup available in both the SuperCab and SuperCrew body styles, but it comes packed with features that provide tons of practicality and convenience. Read on to learn more about the new 2022 Ford Ranger

Powertrain

Coming standard with the Ranger is Ford’s robust 2.3L EcoBoost inline-4 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Its twin-scroll turbocharger improves efficiency and eliminates turbo lag by alternating exhaust flow between each half of the motor’s cylinders. This also results in more available torque throughout the rev range. Power delivery is smooth and gearshifts are quick thanks to the 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

Standard rear-wheel drive is perfect if you’re sticking to city driving, but 4×4 versions feature excellent off-roading capability and a higher ground clearance of 8.9 inches. Rangers with 4-wheel-drive are available with an advanced Terrain Management System featuring several drive modes to help navigate a wide range of environments, including sand, mud/ruts, and grass/gravel/snow.

Towing and Lifting

Rear-wheel drive SuperCab models have an impressive payload capacity of 1,905 pounds while those equipped with 4-wheel-drive can carry up to 1,696 pounds. With the Trailer Tow Package selected, the Ranger can tow up to 7,500 pounds. This package also includes a durable trailer hitch and a 4/7-pin connector, so that you can hook up a variety of equipment.

FX4 Off-Road Package

The 4×4 Ranger is already an incredible off-roader, but enthusiasts can take it to another level by choosing the FX4 Off-Road Package. It adds an electronic-locking rear differential, specially tuned monotube shocks, and more aggressive all-terrain tires. This means improved traction and a smoother ride quality over loose and uneven surfaces. A high-strength steel bash plate in the front and skid plates under the body bring added durability.

In addition to featuring the Terrain Management System, the package also comes with Trail Control, which acts as off-road cruise control.

Interior and Amenities

While the SuperCab offers comfortable bench seating for two in the rear, the SuperCrew comes with four full-sized doors and more spacious rear seating for three. Both models feature a large storage compartment under the rear seats so that you can keep your belongings secure and concealed. Premium materials adorn the passenger compartment, including high-quality cloth and available leather upholstery.

An available 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and dual-zone climate control system make the passenger cabin extra inviting.

Infotainment System

XLT and Lariat models come with an 8-inch SYNC 3 infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration and SiriusXM satellite radio. A FordPass Connect 4G LTE Wi-Fi mobile hotspot is available with all models and enables up to 10 devices within 50 feet to connect to the internet. The available navigation system recognizes voice commands and provides live traffic and weather updates with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.
