1. Bayou Meto Walking Trail
Starting with one of the easiest options, the Bayou Meto
walking trail is perfect for beginners. The trail could be considered more of a
walk than a hike but still features nice views and a peaceful atmosphere, and
you can even read a bit about the history as you go. This trail is best
experienced when the weather is dry, as the trail can get a bit muddy in the
rainy months.
2. Stonewall Park
Stonewall Park is a neighborhood favorite. The trail
surrounding the park is another great option for beginner hikers as it’s short
and relatively flat. Beyond hiking, you can spend the day in Stonewall Park
having a picnic at the pavilion while the kids can enjoy the playground nearby.
3. Reed’s Bridge Battlefield Heritage Park
Combining history and nature, Reed’s Bridge Battlefield is a
state park where you can hike, learn, and explore historic battlefields and
cabins. Visitors love how well-maintained and clean the park remains, all
thanks to helpful local volunteers. To really take advantage of the history,
you can listen to an audio guide on your walk, or simply read the many plaques
scattered around the walking trails.
